my sweet daughter has been growing her hair out for the last year or so. when she was in preschool last year, her friend cut her hair and gave it to locks of love, and i asked hadley if she wanted to do the same.
she said yes, so we've been growing her hair out ever since.
every time she says she wants a haircut, i have to remind her of why she's growing it out.
when we measured last night, we realized it had met the 10-inch minimum requirement!
so this afternoon, we chopped it off!
before and after:
the initial reaction was shock, followed by lots of tears:
even right before i cut it i asked her (for the millionth time) if she was really ready to cut it and she kept saying yes.
i know how sensitive she is, and i knew it would be quite the shocker for her. that is a lot of hair she chopped off.
after a while (and a bath) she finally started getting used to her haircut. she carried a mirror around with her all afternoon to keep looking at it.
i have to say, she looks pretty darn cute.
i even heard elsa tell hadley that she looked beautiful.
and elsa was right.
{her hair is not uneven---she got lucky and got the one-sided-hair-flip, courtesy of her mama}
i'm so proud of her!
today is show-and-tell day at school and she brought her hair.
she's excited.

She looks adorable. I have that same one-sided hair flip, too. I always thought it was just me!
ReplyDeleteSo cute!!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter donated her hair last year. It was a great experience.

It took a long time, but we did eventually get a card in the mail with the official confirmation (from L of L) that her hair donation had been received. So if your daughter is anticipating that official card in the mail, just be prepared for a bit of a wait.
What a great idea to bring her hair for show and tell.
by the way, what a fun new blog banner. Love it!
ReplyDeleteOh wow she has so brave and full of confidence. I know lots of people (uhum-myself) who don't have the guts to do that. so cute.

ReplyDeleteGo Hadley! You look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is 6 and donated her hair for the first time last year for her 5th birthday. Right away she said, "I want to do that again." So, she's growing her hair out again and it's just about long enough. Maybe for her 6th birthday. Way to go Hadley!

ReplyDeleteAnd tell her that yes, we think she is quite adorable with it short.
I've been growing my hair out for the same reason and it feels like it's taking forever. I have slow growing, curly hair so it's taking longer than I thought. Just last night I was wondering if I should give up and cut it. Of course, now I'm not going to. I know I must be close to the 10 inches! Tell Hadley thanks for being so patient in growing hers out and so brave for cutting it off! She looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. That shot of Hadley with the tear sent chills. I did the same thing when I was her age . . . and I cried for days and didn't want to leave the house. I eventually got used to it and realized the hair would grow. She is such a trooper! Go Hadley!!! :)
ReplyDeleteElsa is right. Hadley's beautiful inside and out. :)

Oh Hadley, you are SO AWESOME! I may not know you in real life, but I am proud of what you did. You are a beautiful little lady, inside and out! Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!! My daughters have both done this and loved it. Actually the both loved the short look so much they kept it short. My oldest is now in the process of growing her hair out so she can have long hair when she turns 16...two years from now.
ReplyDeleteThis is so exciting and so sweet! That's so awesome of her to donate her hair!
ReplyDeletehow sweet of her!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful thing for Hadley to want to do!! What an inspirational little girl.
ReplyDeleteYour post had me measuring my hair ha, not quite ten inches.. i'll have to wait!
She looks adorable with short hair! I've been wanting to donate my hair ever since my dad was diagnosed with cancer, but I just haven't gotten the nerve to do it yet. Big props to your daughter!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I thought my family was the only one who had the one-side-hair-flip thing so it's quite a relief to hear that other people have it as well.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Hadley looks cute as always and she has quite the heart, too!
First of all~ great haircut! Second, you must be so proud!! My sister's little girlie, my niece, who is 12, has donated 3 times. THREE! That's some fast growin' hair, I think. :) Your daughter is really a blessing, isn't she!?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful inside and out. What a nice thing to sacrifice for someone. The last picture looks like you...the big smiles look like her Daddy.

Way to go, Hadley! I've only had long enough hair to donate ONCE in my life. The haircut was a shocker, but so worth it. You look great, girl!
ReplyDeleteI am 18 and just donated my hair to locks of love for the second time. The chopping of my hair was also accompanied by tears, so tell your precious Hadley that she is not alone! It is a tough thing to let go of those long locks that took forever to grow, but its for a great cause and I love the giving heart your daughter has.
ReplyDeleteAwww she looks adorable. I love it. Your daughter is gorgeous! New reader, hope you'll stop by our blog :)

ReplyDeleteEmily, that's SO great! I just donated my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths on Monday! It's the shortest it's been since you last saw me when we lived in Orlando. Well done Hadley!! :-)
ReplyDeletethat is SO cool! definitely a proud moment!
ReplyDeleteAw what a great thing to do! She looks so proud of herself in the picture where she is holding her hair, that big smile! Cutting that much hair off is a huge shock, poor girl, but she looks adorable either way!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet - the locks of love donation, the tears, everything. The nice thing about hair is it grows back. :) Maybe she'll even donate another 10" someday. :)
